This is my favorite ruler. Why would this be my fave? Well, it's exactly 2" wide. It's clear. It's marked off in 1/8" measurements. It has a center "0" along the center line that moves in inches to both ends so you can easily locate the center of whatever you're working on.

Sometimes, we need to cut even strips of clay. let's say 3/4". First cut a straightedge in your clay - do this on a ceramic tile or something the clay will stick to. Then you simply move the ruler up onto the clay 3/4" and cut there. It's easy because the ruler is clear and finding 3/4" is easy, too. It's a snap.

I have had one for at least 5 years now. It's been exposed to clay and more clay and the printed line are as good as the first day I got it. When I was in Rome, I gifted it to Emily - not brand new but in great shape. The material (I'm not sure if it's plastic or acrylic, sorry) hadn't become dry or brittle at all. She's an illustrator - she'll make great use of my favorite ruler.
